sing your souls vibration

April 23, 2013 in your mind

There is a tribe in Africa, where a woman who knows she is pregnant goes out into the wilderness with a few friends and together they pray and meditate until they hear the song of their child.  They recognize that every soul has its own vibration
that expresses its unique flavor and purpose. When the women attune to the song, they sing it out loud.  Then they return to the tribe and teach it to everyone else.

When the child is born, the community gathers and sings the child’s song to him or her. Later, when the child enters education, the village gathers and chants the child’s song. If the child falls, or hurts its knee, someone picks it up and sings its song to it.  When the child passes through the initiation to adulthood, the people again come
together and sing. At the time of marriage, the person hears his or her song.

Finally, when the soul is about to pass from this world, the family and friends gather at the person’s bed, just as they did at their birth, and they sing the person to the next life.

To the African tribe there is one other occasion upon which the villagers sing to the child. If at any time during his or her life, the person commits a crime or aberrant social act, the individual is called to the center of the village and the people in the community form a circle around them. Then they sing their song to them.

The tribe recognizes that the correction for antisocial behavior is not punishment; it is love and the remembrance of identity. When you recognize your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another.

A friend is someone who knows your song and sings it to you when you have forgotten it. Those who love you are not fooled by mistakes you have made or dark images you hold about yourself. They remember your beauty when you feel ugly; your wholeness when you are broken; your innocence when you feel guilty; and your purpose when you are confused.

You may not have grown up in an African tribe that sings your song to you at crucial life transitions, but life is always reminding you when you are in tune with yourself and when you are not. When you feel good, what you are doing matches your song, and when you feel awful, it doesn’t. In the end, we shall all recognize our song and sing it well.

Just keep singing and you’ll find your way home.

Why? What’s our real motivation?

January 20, 2013 in your mind

Today’s feature article, by spiritual + fitness guru Alyssa Huntley owner of 11:11 Life Styling.

I’ve been doing a lot of studying lately on yoga philosophy and spirituality….  and it’s got me wondering some of the big “Whys”? in life….

There are obviously the Big Why questions….but also some of the smaller day to day Why’s, that have to do with my lifestyle and occupation.

For example, in reading the Yoga Sutra’s by Patanjali, the text is about purifying the body, heart, mind and then God Realization….. and it has me wondering what is the real motivation behind health and nutrition and personal fitness?

Is it mostly ego driven – to look great and feel great, or is there a hidden motivation that is perhaps much deeper, that maybe we’re not even consciously aware of…?

Are we purifying ourselves in fitness and health, to become enlightened?  We naturally and instinctively know that when we eat healthy and exercise that we feel better – our mood lifts, we have more pure energy and are generally happier and more carefree… These are signs of purification, of detoxing…they are steps to finding our True Nature.  As our body cleans and clears, we can better listen to our heart, our mind can also begin to de-clutter, quiet and truly hear and be present….we can more readily focus and calm and find inner peace….  It’s an interesting thought…..  And personally I think it like it, it has more depth and meaning than just wanting to be fit, firm and look cute.

…For me personally in teaching fitness and nutrition, I’ve had a strong duality within – people are coming to loose weight, and so that’s what I do with them, help them reach their goals…but inside, that’s never been my dream.  I got into fitness and nutrition because I wanted people to love their body’s and enjoy being active, and do so in a healthy and fun way.  After suffering from an eating disorder, weight obsession, and body dismorphic disorder…. the last thing I wanted to do was promote “weight loss” – because to me personally it has been linked to so much pain, both physically and mentally.  I just wanted people to enjoy their body and get active…..so it’s kind of been a strange journey for me, and sets me apart from so many other instructors and trainers, who are very hard core into “loosing weight”.

Anyhow, with looking at fitness, nutrition and health with the possibility of Self Realization, purity and enlightenment, it gives me new hope…..maybe, just maybe, I’ve been unknowingly on the right track the whole time <3

discovering moments of synchronicity

January 14, 2013 in your mind

How many times do you suddenly think to call an old friend and when you do, the person says “I was just thinking about you”?  Then, the moment presents a synchronicity of some kind?

When you feel like you are in just the right place at just the right time, it is to consciously receive important information.  If we look closer at this feeling, there is a noticeable intuitive urge that directs you.  It usually happens at moments of amazing discovery and accomplishments, also is most often done unconsciously.

What is Synchronicity ?

“Synchronicity can be defined as a non-causal but meaningful relationshipbetween events or states of mind within the human psyche and events in the outside world. More simply, we could call it the experiences of “meaningful coincidence”. We have all had experiences that we intuitively recognize as meaningful, though we would be hard pressed to explain them in rational terms. In fact, these “meaningful coincidences” are not coincidences at all but spontaneous realizations of the underlying interconnectedness of all things within the Universe.”

If you bump into someone you haven’t met in a long time then it is advisable to stop and talk to them. Be aware of a message that they might have for you. Follow the coincidence through and you’ll be amazed, on a increasingly regular basis!

Coincidences are often a sign that you are going with the flow of life, doing what your heart desires (divine will) and following your in-tuition (inner guidance – gut feeling).

Meaningful Coincidences fill us with a sense of awe, even shock, as we experience more and more unexplainable similarities with our thought patterns and our experienced reality ! The emergent has it’s seed sown in the garden of thought.

Be prepared to take off!!

The magic of coincidence is the magic of consciousness that creates and shapes all matter in the cosmos. There is meaning in all that comes forth, though sometimes our intellect clouds the message coming through … The random events which bring about a mystical coincidence are something you should probably be paying more attention to as there seems to be amessage coming through from the invisible universe.

Consciousness drives certain unseen forces which create our experience and by living a life that is conscious and with intent, we begin to change at an individual level which affects everything and everyone around us like the domino effect sending ripples of energy across the earth and throughout the infinite cosmos.

So consciously create !

It’s time to wake up and bring this intuitive part of your synchronicity more fully into your consciousness.  Ego thoughts are words we say to ourselves about our situation in order to “logically” figure out how to get things done in the world.  These thoughts come up spontaneously from years of learning to feed the ego.

Keys ways to tap into your guiding thoughts:

  • Open up your thoughts and start expecting synchronicity, including the intuitions that are part of it’s process.
  • To do this, you must clearly identify such guidance by learning to distinguishing your “guiding” thoughts from ordinary “strategic ego thoughts”.
  • If you closely observe, you can begin to feel another kind of thought, one that is usually more spontaneous.
  • This thought may feel like it merely drops into your daily thoughts, usually with no direct connection to “logical” reasoning.
  • These thoughts usually come with an image of us doing something, or a feeling that urges us to take some action that we feel in our gut.
  • These thoughts, are our guidance.  Once followed, they usually lead to an important synchronicity.
  • Last but not least, stay in a state of alertness as much as possible for the next guiding intuition to arrive.  Don’t let a hunch or an image go by without seriously considering it.  Ask yourself “Why did I think that now?”. Play with it.
syn·chro·nic·i·ty definition  /ˌsiŋ-krə-ˈnis-ət-ē, ˌsin-/ Function: n
:  the coincidental occurrence of events and especially psychic events (as similar thoughts in widely separated persons or a mental image of an unexpected event before it happens) that seem related but are not explained by conventional mechanisms of causality —used especially in the psychology of C. G. Jung

It is just as important to GIVE as it is to receive. It’s easy to forget that sometimes as we work our way through life. We enjoyed this interview with 2 of our female guru’s Marie Forleo and Gabrielle Bernstein and are totally inspired (as usual).

a calm breathing exercise

November 26, 2012 in your mind

The holiday Season is here! It’s exciting, it’s busy and my goodness, sometimes it’s a little too much. Take a break from your holiday shuffle, to calm your mind and re-energize your spirits.

Begin in a comfortable sitting position, in a place where you will not be interrupted for about 5 minutes (or more). Close your eyes, and bring your attention to your breath. Listen and watch your breath for a bit, making a connection of how it feels in your body to breathe. When you feel ready, mindfully begin to slow and extend your exhalation breath…. you may notice that your inhale slows and lengthens as well. As you breathe, notice the changes that occur in your body and mind with curiosity, and drop any thoughts from your day. Use this time as a mini-vacation away from any concerns or responsibilities, and just experience you, breathing and relaxing. Take as much time as you like here. Then, in your own time, open your eyes, and let your breath return to normal. (It may remain deeper and slower all on it’s own). Acknowledge yourself for taking the time to relax, with gratitude, and continue on with your day.

Happy Healthy Holidays.

the most important meditation we can do…

November 18, 2012 in feature, your mind

Critical thinking, followed by actions…discern what your world is.

Notice the plot, the scenerio of this human drama and figure out where your talents may fit in to make a better world.  Each of us must do something that makes our heart sing, because no one will want to do it with us if we are not passionate and inspired.

-Dalai Lama

living in the light * meditation

July 8, 2012 in your mind

Sit or lie down comfortably, relax and close your eyes.  Take  a few nice deep breaths.   As you exhale imagine that you are letting go of everything that you no longer need, or want.  Easily, and without effort, let your worries, pains, and tensions melt away….all things that hold you back, or keep you from achieveing your goals, release from your body and mind with every breath…..

Every time you breath, more is released, and you create space for something new.

Spend some time here……..

Then begin to feel your inhalation… as you inhale feel new positive energy filling your being.   It is the energy of the Universe….the energy that you feel you need and desire… breathe it in with love.. and feel your body opening up, filling you with aliveness, and energy.

Feel the moment, feel your body, notice the sensations that you have right here  and right now, and savor it….be it, feel it as the present.

When you feel complete, go back to feeling you breath as you inhale and exhale, and let the thoughts go…..

Open your eyes when you are ready, taking this energy with you into your daily life.

Namaste

the present is the point of power.

June 20, 2012 in feature, your mind

The present is the point of power, this is one of the most important sentences.

You actualize events from the present intersection of spirit and flesh, choosing them from probabilities according to your beliefs.

All of your physical, mental and spiritual abilities are focused together, then, in the brilliant concentration of “present” experience.

You are not at the mercy of your past, or of previous convictions, unless you believe that you are.  If you fully comprehend your power in the present.

You will realize that action at that point also alters the past, it’s beliefs and your reactions.

Your present beliefs, in a manner of speaking, are like the directions given to the entire personality, simultaneously organizing and reorganizing past experience according to your current concepts of reality.

You are structuring your earlier life through the dis-satisfactions of the present, and therefore reinforcing your problems.

be brave.

May 4, 2012 in your mind

“Courage is the most important of all the virtues, without it, you can practice no other.” It takes courage to be kind when others are not. It takes courage to be truthful when a lie might suffice. It takes courage to keep moving forward, when you’d rather quit. I’ve learned that courage, or opting for bravery, is feeling the fear and still doing what is necessary to overcome it. And in the very act of bravery you don’t feel brave but just feel what is true and most real.”

Do a 5 minute meditation focused on what is positive and what you would like to have happen.

Erase all negative thoughts, from your mind + being.

Face south while doing this meditation.  Natives say that negative energy resides in the south.

a different kind of love for valentines day

February 13, 2012 in your mind

Everything is as it should be.

Be my valentine? Be your valentine? Be your own valentine?
Let’s take a closer look at what this day can be all about. We all know it’s just been created for the retail market to sell cards, engagement rings, flowers, etc. Cards are filled with all those mushy sayings to your loved ones about how would you ever live without them or how they have made your life better and more fulfilled. This may all be true but one should really express this more than just once a year anyways.
Let’s take a different view at what valentine’s day could be. We have to love ourselves before we have the capacity to love another person. This person we are; this body we have been blessed with and nourishing; this mind we have been educating and stimulating. That’s who we should be sending a valentine’s wish to. Ourself. This wish could be a decision to be healthier, wiser, nicer, smarter, tougher.
Give yourself  the gift of being the most important person today. Do those things you want to do. Listen to the music you like. Watch a movie or TV show you like. Sit in silence all day. Go for a walk in nature or in a busy city. What makes YOU happy and content. What can you do for you to show your body…your temple…love. Feel it and bathe in it.
Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU.

the power of chakra’s

January 15, 2012 in your mind

What are chakra’s?

Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning vortex, or wheel and it refers to the seven energy centers of which composes your consciousness + your energy system.

Understanding your chakras allows you to understand the relationship between your mind and your body, start seeing your body as a map of your consciousness.  It gives you a better understanding of yourself and those around you.

How do they work?

These seven energy centers, are pumps or valves, that regulate the flow of energy through your energy system.  The functions of your chakras, reflect the decisions you make…how you choose to respond to the conditions in your life.  These valves are opened and closed, based on your thoughts, what you feel and through perceptual filters you choose to experience in the world around you.  These chakras are not physical, they are aspects of your consciousness.

They interact with your physical body through two major systems, the endocrine and the nervous system.

Everything possible for you to experience, can be divided into seven categories.  Each category can be associated with a particular chakra.  Thus, the chakras represent not only particular parts of your physical body, but also particular parts of your consciousness.

When you feel tension, chances are…you feel it in the chakra associated with that part of your consciousness and in the parts of the physical body associated with that chakra.  If there is a tension or stress in the chakra, it may be controlled by nerves and plexus.  When this stress continues, it may then be felt on a physical level.

How to work with them…

There are many ways to tap into your intuition and start using your chakra’s as a guide to your health and emotions.

Reiki master Bettina Goodwin shared a good exercise with us.  Sit up in meditation, imagine a ball of light moving up your body in a straight line…from your 1st root chakra (located at your tailbone) all the way up to your 7th crown chakra (the entire top of your head) and feel the ball of light.  Is there an area of your body that feels strange or painful as the ball of light moves upward? This is more than likely your body telling you to focus on that chakra area.  If for example you feel a different feeling as the ball of light passes up your stomach area, that is your 3rd chakra-which is yellow.  Focus on yellow, and all depths of the colour.  Surround yourself with things that are yellow, get a yellow citrine crystal, or just close your eyes and focus on yellow.  When you see the colour…feel the healing power of that colour, in your navel/stomach area.  Trust in your body.

see it clear.

January 14, 2012 in your mind

You are the one creating this life.

You must look through the structures that you have yourself created, the organized ideas upon which you have grouped your experience.

To see clearly in your own mind, you must first of all un-structure your thoughts, follow them without judging them, without comparing them to the framework of your beliefs.

new year…lived different

January 2, 2012 in your mind

This is 2012. It’s finally here.

But…..what does it really mean? Is the world going to end? No….it’s going to change though.

It’s going to be what we truly want it to be. All of us; all over the world. We will all be more peaceful, appreciative, environmentally aware and caring toward our beautiful planet and each other. We will be better parents, sisters, brothers, children and grandchildren. We will all be the best and most present we can be, all the time. We will feed our bodies, our temples, only what it needs.  Instead of a New Year’s resolution we will focus on these goals and how we can achieve them. One at a time and as soon as we can,the best way we can. We will live our best lives as we do it too. Life is to be enjoyed and appreciated every day. We will plan on living with less and enjoy it more. We will give more and take less. We will clear our all the emotional and physical garbage.

Is this all too much to ask of each of us. No. It’s what we have to do….no choices here folks. We owe this to our universe and the future of it. Let’s just do it!

you say you want a resolution…

December 23, 2011 in your mind

Staying True to Your New Year’s Resolutions.

The new year often equals a new resolution. Promises made to yourself to begin a new healthy lifestyle, drop a bad habit or in some way improve your life.

Look back at last years resolution; how long did you stick with it?

Resolutions that don’t get fulfilled, perhaps are not high on your list of priorities, and that’s okay. Some questions to ask yourself before setting a resolution are:
How much do I really want this outcome?
Is it a true desire, or something I think I “should” do?
Is working towards this goal going to enhance my life, or just create more stress?
Then really weigh out your options.
What’s going to be best for me mentally, physically and emotionally?

Then, if you are serious about change, follow this formula for creating lasting results.

Use Positive Terms
Ask yourself:
What do I want?
What will that do for me?

Determine whether you are moving towards or away from?
Example: “I want to enjoy peak health” (towards) rather than “I want to stop eating junk food” (away). By focusing on the towards, you will be less tempted to think about the things you don’t want, and get sucked back into the old behaviour.

Excite Your Senses
Sensing the results, helps make goals feel more real.
What will I see, hear and feel when I’ve achieved it?

Begin and Maintain
Can I initiate and maintain what is needed for this goal?
Who’s help, expertise and support can I enlist?

Appropriate Context
With whom, when and where do I want it?
Am I ready?

Keep the Present Benefits
What do I get out of my current behaviors, that I want to keep?
Example: while eating junk food is an unhealthy habit, it does bring a sense of comfort and enjoyment.
How can I hold onto the positive aspects, while moving towards my new goal?

Ecology Check
Is it worth the cost, energy and time it may take?

Action
What are my next steps?
What will I commit to this week?

Review
Plan a date to review your progress.

By following these outlined steps you will greatly improve your chances of succeeding with your resolution. Want to take it a step further, and really ensure that you will attain your gaol; attend, one of these two workshops “Absolute Resolute” January 9th or “You Say You Want a Resolution” January 23rd.
